E06 fault in ABB DCS800 drive indicates SDCS-CON-4 watchdog timeout occurred. This means the control board fails to complete its tasks within a specific time, potentially due to software, hardware, or communication issues.

Here are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this fault:

  1. Power Cycle the Drive:

    • Fully power off the drive, wait for a few minutes, and turn it back on. This can sometimes reset temporary issues that caused the watchdog timer to expire.
  2. Inspect Control Board Connections:

    • Verify that all connections to the SDCS-CON-4 board are secure. Loose or faulty connections can lead to communication delays that trigger a watchdog timeout.
  3. Reload Firmware:

    • Reinstall the drive's firmware. A stable power source during flashing is essential to avoid corrupting the firmware, which can lead to watchdog errors.
  4. Check for External Interference:

    • Ensure there are no external factors (like electromagnetic interference or power surges) that could be causing delayed processing on the control board.
  5. Inspect for Overloaded or Faulty Components:

    • Check for any signs of overheating or damage on the SDCS-CON-4 board, as damaged or overheated components may slow down processing and trigger a timeout.
  6. Replace the SDCS-CON-4 Control Board:

    • If the watchdog timeout persists and other troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, the SDCS-CON-4 control board itself may have a hardware fault. In this case, replacing the board may be necessary.
