Cause : IGBT Overtemperature comes when the IGBT switch temperature exceeds 110 °C. When a motor drive system reports an "IGBT Overtemperature" fault, it means that the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT), a crucial component within the drive, has exceeded its safe operating temperature. IGBTs are semiconductor devices used to switch high-power loads like motors on and off in motor drives.

Here's how to address an IGBT Overtemperature fault:

  1. Immediate Shutdown: Upon detecting the fault, the drive should initiate a shutdown procedure to prevent further overheating and potential damage to the IGBT and other components. Allow the system to cool down before attempting any troubleshooting.

  2. Check Cooling Systems: Inspect the cooling systems of the drive, including fans, heatsinks, and ventilation openings. Ensure that cooling components are functioning correctly and that airflow around the drive is unobstructed. Clean any dust or debris that may be blocking airflow.

  3. Assess Ambient Temperature: Evaluate the ambient temperature in the vicinity of the drive. High ambient temperatures can contribute to IGBT overheating. Ensure that the drive is installed in a well-ventilated area with adequate cooling.

  4. Reduce Load: High loads on the motor can generate excess heat and contribute to IGBT overheating. Consider reducing the load on the motor or redistributing the load across multiple motors if possible.

  5. Review Drive Settings: Check the drive settings and parameters to ensure they are configured correctly for your application. Adjust parameters related to motor control, acceleration, and deceleration to optimize performance and minimize heat generation.

  6. Inspect Wiring and Connections: Examine all electrical connections and wiring associated with the drive for signs of damage, wear, or improper installation. Loose connections or damaged wiring can increase resistance and lead to overheating.
