Cause : Overcurrent comes when the current flowing through the drive has exceeded a preset threshold. Frequency converter has detected too high a current (>4*I N ) in the motor cable:

  • sudden heavy load increase
  • short circuit in motor cables
  • unsuitable motor

This could be due to various reasons such as:

  1. Overloading of the motor: If the load on the motor connected to the drive is too high, it can cause the drive to draw more current than it's rated for, triggering an overcurrent fault.

  2. Short circuit: A short circuit in the motor or the wiring can cause a sudden surge in current, leading to an overcurrent fault.

  3. Faulty components: Internal faults within the drive such as damaged power semiconductors or malfunctioning control circuits can also cause overcurrent faults.

To resolve an overcurrent fault in a VACON CX drive, you should:

  1. Check the load: Ensure that the motor is not overloaded and that the mechanical system is functioning properly.

  2. Inspect the wiring: Look for any signs of damage or short circuits in the motor and power wiring.

  3. Check for loose connections: Loose connections can increase resistance and cause higher currents. Make sure all connections are secure.

  4. Reset the drive: Many drives have a reset function to clear fault codes. Refer to the user manual for instructions on how to reset the drive.
