Cause : Earth Leakage comes when there is an unwanted flow of current to earth ground due to damage insulation, internal drive fault or grounding issue.
"Earth leakage" fault in "drive" indicate that there is an unwanted electrical connection between a live conductor and the earth ground. This means drive is detecting current that is "leaking" from the normal electrical path (phase conductors) to the earth.
This can happen due to various reasons, including:
- Damaged Insulation: Insulation breakdown in the power supply or motor cables can cause a leakage current to flow to ground.
- Contamination: Dirt, moisture, or other contaminants can create a conductive path between a live conductor and ground.
- Internal Drive Faults: Faulty components within the drive itself can lead to earth leakage.
- Grounding Issues: Inadequate or faulty grounding can contribute to earth leakage faults.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Inspect Cables: Visually inspect the power supply and motor cables for any signs of damage, such as cuts, abrasions, or insulation breakdown.
- Check for Contamination: Look for signs of dirt, moisture, or other contaminants on the cables or drive terminals.
- Use a Leakage Current Detector: Use a leakage current detector to measure the leakage current flowing to ground.
- Check Grounding: Verify that the drive is properly grounded and that the grounding system is in good condition.
- Inspect Drive for Faults: Check the drive for any error codes or diagnostic indicators that might point to an earth leakage fault.
