HMI (Human-Machine Interface) is typically connected to a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) through a communication interface. There are several common methods for establishing this connection:

  1. Serial Communication: Serial communication protocols such as RS-232, RS-485, or RS-422 are commonly used to connect HMIs and PLCs. Wireless communication allows for flexible installation and mobility, making it suitable for applications where running cables is impractical or challenging.

Once the HMI and PLC are connected via the chosen communication interface, they can exchange data such as process variables, control commands, and status information. The HMI can send commands to the PLC to control equipment and processes, while the PLC can send data to the HMI for display and monitoring purposes.
