  4. Switching Function: Contactors are used to control the flow of electrical power in a circuit. When the coil is energized, the main contacts close, allowing current to flow through the circuit and power the load connected to the contactor. When the coil is de-energized, the main contacts open, interrupting the current flow and turning off the load.

Contactors are typically classified based on their construction and functionality, including factors such as current rating, voltage rating, number of poles, and the type of load they are designed to handle. They are available in various configurations, such as three-phase contactors for controlling three-phase motors, and can be equipped with additional features such as overload protection, surge suppression, and interlocks for safety and control purposes.
