Cause : EEPROM read-write error comes when a problem with the drive's ability to read from or write to the EEPROM. This fault comes when hardware issue in control card of drive.

"Err21" fault in inovance MD290 drive indicate "EEPROM read-write error". This means a problem with the drive's internal memory. This can prevent the drive from storing or retrieving configuration settings, leading to incorrect operation or failure to start.

Common Causes:

  1. Corrupted Data:

    • The data stored in the EEPROM might be corrupted due to power surges, improper shutdowns, or other electrical issues.
  2. Hardware Failure:

    • The EEPROM chip or related circuitry on the drive's control board may be malfunctioning.
  3. Software/ Firmware Issues:

    • A bug or issue in the drive's firmware might cause problems with EEPROM read-write operations.
  4. Excessive Write Operations:

    • EEPROM has a limited number of write cycles. If the drive frequently writes to the EEPROM, it could reach the end of its write cycle lifespan.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Power Cycle the Drive:

    • Turn off the drive, wait for a few moments, and then turn it back on. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.
  2. Check for Firmware Updates:

    • Ensure that the drive is running the latest firmware. If not, consider updating to the latest version as it may contain fixes for EEPROM-related issues.
  3. Reset to Factory Settings:

    • If you suspect data corruption, you might reset the drive to its factory default settings. However, this will erase all custom settings, so be sure to back up the configuration if possible.
  4. Inspect the Control Board:

    • If you're comfortable with hardware inspection, check the control board for any obvious signs of damage or faulty components related to the EEPROM.
