Cause : Inverter Over Temperature comes when the internal components of the drive that regulate motor speed are experiencing excessive heat.

The F0004 fault in Siemens Micromaster 440 indicates an Inverter Overtemperature condition. This means that the temperature inside the inverter has exceeded the permissible limit.

Common Causes

  1. High Ambient Temperature: The environment in which the drive is operating is too hot.
  2. Inadequate Cooling: Insufficient cooling due to blocked or malfunctioning fans, clogged air filters, or poor ventilation.
  3. Excessive Load: The drive is running at a higher load than it is rated for, causing it to overheat.
  4. Frequent Start/Stop Cycles: Repeated starts and stops can cause the drive to heat up rapidly.
  5. Incorrect Parameter Settings: Parameters related to temperature limits may be set incorrectly.
  6. Faulty Temperature Sensors: Issues with the drive's internal temperature sensors.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Ambient Temperature:

    • Ensure the drive is operating within the specified ambient temperature range.
    • Improve ventilation or air conditioning if necessary.
  2. Inspect Cooling System:

    • Check the drive’s cooling fans for proper operation.
    • Clean or replace any clogged air filters.
    • Ensure there is adequate space around the drive for proper airflow.
  3. Reduce Load:

    • Ensure the drive is not overloaded. Check the load and compare it with the drive’s rated capacity.
    • Reduce the load if possible to see if the fault clears.
  4. Adjust Parameters:

    • Check and adjust the parameters related to temperature limits.
    • Extend acceleration and deceleration times to reduce thermal stress.
  5. Check for Frequent Start/Stop Cycles:

    • If the application involves frequent start/stop cycles, try to reduce the frequency if possible.
    • Use soft start/stop functions to reduce the thermal impact.
  6. Inspect Drive Components:

    • Check for any signs of damage or malfunction in the drive components.
    • Verify the operation of the internal temperature sensors.
