Nidec DC FXM5 is a field controller designed to regulate the field current of DC motors, particularly wound-field DC motors. It’s often used in conjunction with a DC drive to provide precise control of the motor’s speed and torque.
The FXM5 series of field regulators is designed to control the field current of DC motors up to 20, 50 or 90 A. When used in conjunction with either the Mentor II or Quantum III variable speed DC drives, the field regulator is controlled directly via the drive parameters. This allows full customization of the field control for any application. The FXM5’s can be also used as stand-alone units when retrofitting existing applications.
Features
- Field Current Control: The FXM5 allows for precise control of the field current, which is crucial for achieving desired speed and torque characteristics in wound-field DC motors.
- Field Weakening: It enables field weakening, a technique used to increase the speed of a DC motor above its base speed. By reducing the field current, the motor’s back EMF is reduced, allowing it to accelerate further.
- Various Control Modes: The FXM5 can be controlled in various ways, including analog control (using a variable speed drive), digital control (with a Control Techniques Mentor II drive), external control (from a PLC or other source), and internal control (using a preset potentiometer).
- Field Economy: It offers a field economy feature that reduces the field current when the motor is stationary to prevent overheating. This can also be used to keep the motor warm and prevent condensation.
- Protection Features: The FXM5 provides protection against field loss, ensuring safe and reliable operation of the DC motor.
Applications:
The FXM5 is typically used in applications where precise control of DC motors is required, such as:
- Industrial machinery
- Printing presses
- Cranes and hoists
- Rolling mills
- Paper mills
