ABB ACS880 Drive Brake Chopper – The brake chopper is built-in as standard for ACS880-01 frame sizes R1 to R4 ( .75KW to 30 KW). For other constructions and frames, a brake chopper is a selectable internal option +D150 (except for the ACS880-11 and ACS880-31, where the chopper is an external option). Braking control is integrated into ACS880 single drives. It not only controls braking, but also supervises system status and detects failures such as brake resistor and resistor cable short-circuits, chopper short-circuits, and calculated resistor over temperature.
Brake resistor (+D151 code) – The brake resistors are separately available for the ACS880-x1 and built in for the cabinet-built ACS880-x7. Resistors other than the standard option resistors may be used, provided that the specified resistance value is not decreased and that the heat dissipation capacity of the resistor is sufficient for the drive application. No separate fuses in the brake circuit are required if e.g. the mains cable is protected with fuses and no mains cable/fuse overrating takes place.
